Nokhur is a small village located in the mountains of Turkmenistan, at an altitude of 1000 meters above sea level. The path to this “paradise” is long and difficult – climbs, descents, mountain serpentines. But all the hardships of the road are forgotten at the sight of this place of rare beauty, closed on four sides by high mountains.
Some associate the name of the village with the Persian legend of the winged Peri maidens, since “no” and “khur” are translated as “nine Peri”, while others associate it with the name of Noah, whose ark, after a forty-day voyage, landed on Mount Manoman; The words “noh” or “nuh” are translated as “blow”. The richness of flora and fauna of Nohur is explained by local elders by the fact that Noah’s son, Nuh, released all the birds and animals in this place and planted the seeds stored in the ark.
Nokhur is divided into Upper and Lower (Old Nokhur village), which contains an old cemetery with “horned” tombstones. Living on the slopes of the hills among picturesque gardens of almonds and pomegranates, the tribe has preserved a unique national handicraft and architecture along with Indian features and lifestyle.
Here, the Khur-Khuri waterfall, which originates from small mountain springs, falls from a height of 53 meters.
You can also look into the cave “Deva’s House” – a narrow crevice that goes into deep darkness. They say that at night mysterious and menacing voices are heard in it. The highest point of Kopetdag, which is called “Three Wells”, is also located here.
A trip to this amazing land will remain in your memory for a long time.
